The farm provides the family with all their carnivorous needs with plenty left over, so they are able to offer for sale, eggs, sausages, steaks, chops etc. for guests.
Red Ruby Beef – For as long as time can tell, respected food connoisseurs and celebrity chefs have been devotees of the merits of Red Ruby Beef. Most cite it as the best beef one can buy. Red Rubies are a traditional breed whose flavour has not been bred out by the trend for low fat meat.
The meat’s natural marbling ensures that it remains moist during cooking. The slow growth rate of the cattle adds to its flavour and tenderness. Red Rubies graze all summer on traditional pastures. In the winter their feed is supplemented with home-grown haylage. The cattle stay on the farm until we take them to a local abattoir. This reduces the stress of a long journey with other cattle which in turn, adds significantly to the final quality of the meat. The meat is then hung in a traditional manner to obtain maximum tenderness.
Local farmer and celebrity Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall of River Cottage fame is also an owner of Red Rubies and writes: “Red Ruby Devons are beautiful animals producing beautiful beef. When grass fed they have excellent marbling and superb flavour. As far as I’m concerned, Red Ruby Devon Beef is as good as it gets!”
Because Haye Farm is relatively small scale, we are not able to deliver on a regular basis, but rather on an as and when available basis. If your requirement is not available at the time of ordering, we will let you know. We will then phone you when the next batch is ready for despatch.
Pork –Haye Farm sells pork as either a half or whole pig, butchered as chops, leg, shoulder and belly joints. Meat can be cured and can then be processed as a half or whole pig, as sausages, ham joints and bacon (back and streaky). As with beef, there are peaks and troughs in availability (excuse the pun) so customers are advised to get in touch if their order is urgent, to check the stock situation.
Subject to availability, boxes of meat can be prepared for guests to take home, or sent by courier delivery. Please ask for more details.
